IMG_2057.JPG

Hi everyone! I have some exciting news!

The series of the original POINT-AND-SPEAK” Phrasebook in Japan has welcomed their 20th anniversary this year.

There are around 100 countries communication books in this series, very popular as a travel communication book in Japan.

To celebrate their 20 year anniversary, they are making website page and introduce every country’s topics. And I’m proud to be part of the Handmade section!

A huge thank you to Mami from Chappy Yarn, as she is the author of the Hong Kong one and she was one the pioneers for HKG edition!

Please have a look as I am featured there with my tiny shop. I feel so honoured to be a part of such an amazing publication. どうもありがとう

Chubby Bee Pattern

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Happy Thursday to you all. 🙂 I wanted to share my Chubby Bee Pattern which is FREE on Love Crochet. Perfect for beginners and I specifically made this so that beginners can feel  encouraged by making this very easy to follow pattern.

I know when I was starting out with amigurumi – I felt a bit overwhelmed with wanting to make something cute but feeling a bit insecure about approaching patterns. So I started my chubby series to provide patterns for those just getting started with amigurumi.

This is a simple increase of single crochets. Starts with a Magic Ring of 6. Then you keep increasing each row. An increase in ami is usually labeled inc. inc=2 single crochets in one stitch.

After a series of increased rows, you do many rows of single crochet only to extend the body of the bee. Then the decreases happen to shape the bum. Decreases are usually labeled dec.

My friend, Stephanie did a wonderful version of my bee for those of you wanting to make your bee extra special! Be sure to check out her blog at All About Ami to see her additions. 🙂 Stephanie is a multi talented, super sweet and kind friend. She has many patterns that I love and excited to try out. Please go follow her on instagram and see all of her many beautiful creations. Her talent is beyond imagination and everything she makes is so elegant.

I will also make a video of my chubby bee one of these days when Hong Kong isn’t so gloomy! Lighting is so difficult and I feel I may need to invest in some proper lighting for that.

Have you tried out my pattern? I love seeing all of your creations. Be sure to tag me on instagram so I can see it!

Tomato Basket Pattern

img_8177-1

Hey friends! I need to get better about blogging but finding it difficult to manage instagram, Facebook, my etsy and love crochet shops while keeping this up too. 🙂 But I promise to check in every now and then.

I have a new pattern ready! It’s a tomato basket made with Lion Brand’s Fast Track Yarn. Using a 9mm hook, this basket works up like a dream! So fast, so lovely, sturdy and can hold your current work in progress, yarns or even toys that your kid needs to tidy up.

I came to this idea when I had a surplus of Fast Track Yarn that my friend gave me for my birthday. I was brainstorming for almost a year before I actually used the yarn. Yep, brainstorming takes forever for me! But then I thought, oh a basket would be nice in our home but red doesn’t fit our blue/grey/cream colour scheme in our home.

So my son had a great idea to make a giant tomato basket. Great idea little O. So I made it and then I made two more. And then, well… I wrote the pattern out and had my wonderful friend test it for me.

If you are wanting to make this and you’re a beginner, don’t worry! It’s very basic stitches. You need to know how to single crochet and the most complicated part are the little vines. But even that, it is just single crochet as well but I have lots of pictures to help you along.

So if you’re interested, feel free to give it a try. It’s only 10HKD (about 1.27 USD) and you might want to make some for your friends too. Your purchase goes to supporting my small business. It’s just me! 🙂

You can purchase the pattern here:

Etsy or Love Crochet

You can find the yarn I used on Lion Brand Yarn website. 🙂

*Some links are affiliated links and means I will get a percentage if you should purchase via the link. Know this goes to supporting my small business. (just me) 🙂

Happy Chinese New Year

Happy year of the dog everyone!

Every year I feel like I’m learning so much about that particular year’s lunar animal. Dogs are great, kind and loyal. Humble and honest. Hard working. All great characteristics. 😍

I made a pug this year for Chinese New Year and if you make it please tag me on social media.

You can find the inexpensive pdf here.

How are you spending your new year? I’m just relaxing with my family. Hooking here and there. Seeing friends and shopping a little. Aren’t these yarn cakes gorgeous? Hand painted by the wonderful Chappy Yarn.

Have a healthy and happy new year everyone!

Tomato Amigurumi

My small little tomato amigurumi is on my Etsy shop now! Your purchase of this inexpensive pattern means you are supporting this full time mum who works from home. And hopefully you will enjoy this quick and easy pattern! You could attach a note like we have here for your very special valentine.

Or if you’re not a fan of Valentine’s Day, you could just make it because it’s super cute. 😘

If you’d like the free version instead, love crochet will publish it soon. 😘

Happy Valentine’s!

Hey guys! It’s almost Valentine’s Day….

and I can’t resist a good pun!

I made this small tomato amigurumi and my son made a note:

“I love you from my head tomatoes!!!!”

I wanted to make one for each of his friends at school but school is cancelled to prevent a flu outbreak. Oh well, was a good idea haha.

I made the giant tomato out of Lionbrand’s Fast track yarn using a 5.5mm hook. I made a basket for my current projects. I like that it’s hidden and out away in a place I can always go to. I made the lid (the green stem part) and attached a quarter of it to the body of the tomato so that the lid is always attached.

What do you think? What are you planning to make for Valentine’s Day?

I wanted to make the anti valentines too, like “stupid Cupid” and such. But no time sadly as I was sick the past two weeks. I’m much better now though!

Hope everyone has a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Happiest Holidays

Hi again!

Happy holidays from our family to yours. It’s been an exciting end of the year. As you know we had two markets this year. Etsy Made Local Hong Kong and Hong Kong Handmade two weeks after.

Etsy Made Local on Nov 26, 2017

Handmade Hong Kong on Dec 10, 2017.

Both were highly successful. So many people came and supported my little one person operation shop! It was exciting to meet everyone and talk to them about my products, the stories behind them and my goals for the future.

The most exciting part of all of this was how people really loved my dolls. The children that came to every single one of my markets made me squeal with delight! They remembered little old me! (And I remembered them!)

After Market I busily made gifts for my friends kids. But most importantly, gifts for my son.

He asked me for three dolls. (Not bought toys!)

1. Him dressed as a reindeer:

2. Him dressed as a snowman:

3. Him dressed as Santa:

He had asked if Santa will be visiting our home like his friends have been saying. I said unlikely because Santa was alive a long time ago.

I told him about how Santa would give presents to the poor and children who didn’t have much in their lives. So while Santa may not be alive anymore, we keep his spirit alive by being kind and generous. Especially to those less fortunate than us. I told him that he has so many family and friends who give him endless amounts of love and gifts. Santa won’t need to visit him, right? He agreed.

He then asked me to make his Santa doll a giant sack full of presents.

“Why?” I asked curiously because I thought he had understood our (complex) conversation about Santa.

“So I can give it to the children who need more love.”

I melted. He’s four.

“I don’t need more umma. I just need more snuggles from you and baba.”

You got it kid. You are seriously the best.

Happy holidays friends, may it be filled with lots of love and laughter.

Market Time

Hi again (poor neglected blog).

Things are moving along with Market preps and I wanted share that I will be at:

Etsy Made Local (Nov 26, 2017)

Handmade Hong Kong (Dec 10, 2017) booth #7

Both are in Discovery Bay from 11am-6pm

I love to tell my son and his friends the story behind my dolls. Real places with a magical flair. Here are some of my dolls that will be there and their stories:

Hong Kong Mer-People

There are many mer-people living in the waters of Hong Kong. They love to play with the children that are near the waterside, splashing them with their tails to make them smile.

Each mer-person has glittery hair, as the sun shines on their golden locks. Whenever the angry typhoon monster comes by, the mer-people join together to protect the people from harm by fighting the typhoon monster away.

The people cheer as the typhoon disappears and the sun shines on Hong Kong again.

The mer-people are never far incase another typhoon monster should appear and the people of Hong Kong know they are in safe hands.

Jellyfish of Jeju Island:

In the waters surrounding Jeju Island, a little 해파리 (jelly fish) swims around the famous Korean island.

While the locals are sleeping he flies out of the waters to go eat the delicious 한라봉 (special jeju island oranges) and disappears back into the waters before sunrise.

Sometimes you can see a little sparkle in the sun as it becomes morning and that means little 해파리 just went back into the waters.

Local farmers don’t mind because he adds a little magic to their day

君 the Octopus of Hong Kong

Every sunset a little octopus named 君 (“Gwon” meaning gentleman in Cantonese) swims over from the Deep South China Sea to a place called 海星灣: Starfish Bay. It’s in a little area of #hongkong (Ma On Shan)where it is quiet and peaceful.

The locals also go out in low tide to collect the clams that have appeared as they walk out into the bay.

Little do they know, it’s actually little 君 stretching out his tentacles to create the low tides for the locals to pick their clams.

He smiles as he watches families spending time together, children laughing and kicking the water.

And when they are all done, he swims back into the deep waters and visits again the next day.

And of course some other favourites from my Etsy shop. From Nov 26-Dec 11, 2017: my Etsy shop will have free shipping to all Hong Kong residents! Incase you can’t make it to my Markets, then you won’t be missing out. ❤️

I hope to see you all in Discovery Bay very soon!

Summer Crafting

I mad this owl mobile as a surprise for one of our friends who is having a precious little boy due soon! I asked what the nursery colours would be and red is one of the colours. I hope S & K like it and their little Bebe too!

Last but not least: a watercolour paining of a dinosaur my son painted the other day. He is full of giggles and joy. I really hope he keeps that in his heart for the rest of his life. He has so much love and he is so sweet. Makes this mummy so proud to call him my boy.

I’m slowly making new amigurumis and other items for my etsy as well as a Christmas market (if I get accepted). Feeling surreal that half the year is gone already. So much has changed and so much is going to change. But one thing that hasn’t changed is how thankful and blessed I feel to have the life I do.
